Blood tracking or blood trailing is a method of using tracking dogs, usually on a long tracking leash, to find wounded big game such as deer and bear. A tracking dog is usually used when there is little or no blood that the hunter can see. The dog tracks by following the blood scent and other body and footprint scents of the individual animal being tracked.
In various parts of North America the philosophies regarding blood tracking differ considerably. In our part of the United States, the Northeast, leashed tracking dogs are used when all other attempts to find the wounded animal fail. Therefore, our goal is to breed cold nosed, patient wirehaired dachshunds capable of working a scent line that is many hours old.
John Jeanneney imported his first wirehaired dachshund from Germany in 1965 while Jolanta acquired her first teckel in 1977. Between the two of us we have been involved in dachshund breeding and training for 56 years. We are also hunters, trackers, field trialers, educators, writers and self-publishers. This website is about our dogs and their selective breeding based on European working bloodlines. Our dachshunds are used by hunters and handlers all over the country for tracking wounded deer, bear and elk. They are also very competitive and successful in dachshund field trials run on the cottontail rabbit. From 1988 to 2006 our dachshunds gathered 45 Absolute wins (equivalent to High in Trial) in dachshund field trials, which is a record number.
We owe a big thank you to all our "dog friends" and people who have "von Moosbach-Zuzelek" dachshunds and support our efforts. Your feedback has been invaluable to us and has helped us breed better dogs.
