HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to
Sherry and Phil Ruggieri and their Auggie (FC Augden von
Moosbach-Zuzelek) who won the 4th Buckeye Dachshund Club
Invitational Trial held in Dundee, Ohio. The format of this trial is
different from a "regular" AKC trial. Twenty best field trial
dachshunds from a previous year are invited to compete in this
annual event. They are braced for the 1st and 2nd series. Each brace
is judged by two judges who determine which dog loses and which one
wins a given brace. After the 2nd series, dogs with two losses are
eliminated from the further competition, and remaining dogs get
braced again. This process goes on until in the end there is only
one brace and the dog winning that brace gets the title of Winner of
the Buckeye Dachshund Club Invitational Trial.
Auggie was really hot and did a great job in a tough competition;
Sherry did a beautiful job as a handler. Last year Larry
Gohlke's Lolly won the trial, and the first Invitational was won by
Auggie's sire Alfi von der Hardt-Hoehe. Results and some pics are
posted by Patt Nance at
http://www.fieldworthy.com/BuckeyeInvitationa07.html |

Last weekend we
had a great reunion of friends and dogs at the New Jersey field
trials. Susanne Hamilton came all the way from Maine, and Sherry and
Phil Ruggieri were there too. I had a great time in spite of the
terrible weather on Saturday. As almost everywhere in the northeast,
on Saturday it was pouring buckets. There was so much water on the
ground that on several occasions my dogs had to swim to get to the
drier grounds. But it was a fantastic day for our dogs. At the
Annual trial our
Emma (Asta
von Moosbach-Zuzelek), handled all day by Susanne, placed 1st
in the open bitch stake of 16. Our Bernie (Darin von
Moosbach-Zuzelek) at his first field trial ever placed first too in
the open male stake of 16. Emma defeated Bernie and was the Best of
Open stake. Sherry’s Dixie (FC Anja von Moosbach-Zuzelek) placed 3rd
in a stake of 36 field champions! On Sunday Dixie was NBQ in a
bitch field champion stake, and Emma, again handled by Susanne,
placed 3rd in stake of 19. Emma's last placement makes her a new
field champion! Now she has joined a large group of siblings that
are field champions. So far the Alfi/Elli breeding produced field
champions: Amy, Attila (Bear), Augden (Auggie), Arlo, Anja (Dixie),
Asta (Emma), and Billy.

At the Madison Area Dachshund
Club field trials in Roscoe,
IL 104 dachshunds were
competing on Saturday, while on
Sunday there were 87 entries. In
the stake of 24 field champion
bitches our Elli placed 1st
and Cheri Faust’s Danika was 2nd.
Unfortunately Elli came in heat
a day before and therefore she
was ineligible to run against a
winner of the male field
champion stake.
On Sunday in the bitch fld
champion stake of 21, Larry
Gohlke’s Lolly was 1st,
Judy Gallamore’s Ana Maria was 2nd,
our Elli was 3rd. In
the stake of 19 fld champion
males, Sherry Ruggieri’s Auggie
(Elli's son) was 1st
and Larry Gohlke’s Nix was 2nd.
Then Auggie beat Lolly in the
best of field champions run, and
also defeated a winner of best
of open stakes becoming the

Today we said a final good-bye to our top
tracking dog
Sabina. Sabina was diagnosed with inflammatory carcinoma of
mammary glands six months ago at the age of 12 years. Her prognosis

Thanks to our vets at the Cobleskill Veterinary Clinic she enjoyed
life until now. Finally the time came to let her go. She will be
greatly missed but her legacy will live on. |

This day brought the end to Sabina's long
and successful blood tracking career. While tracking a wounded deer
she punctured her eye and subsequently lost vision in the injured
eye. Being almost 12 years old, she certainly earned her retirement,
but in her mind she is not ready for it. She still wants to track
and gets upset when she sees John leaving for a deer call without
her.
December 15 update - Sabina's eye has been healing really well and
it looks like she has not lost vision. |

This process goes on until in the end there is only one brace and
the dog winning that brace gets the title of the Winner of the the

brace is Reserve Winner. No other placements are given. Lolly is
10.5 years old. |

This was a very sad day for both of us
as we had to say good bye to our beloved Kuba (FC Zuzelek's
Globetrotter). Kuba was diagnosed with Cushings disease in November
2003 at the age of 12 years. He was treated at Cornell Animal
Hospital with Trilostane, but in December 2004 the drug stopped
working and he deteriorated quickly. Kuba is greatly missed. |
